Frequently Asked Questions

How are sentences counted?
By splitting on period, exclamation mark, and question mark, then filtering out empty segments. This means abbreviations like “U.S.A.” will inflate the count. For most prose, the count is accurate.
What reading speed does it assume?
200 words per minute for reading, 150 WPM for speaking. These are standard averages for adult English readers and presenters. Adjust mentally if your audience reads significantly faster or slower.
